Multiculturalism is of the utmost importance to both myself and SBS. The broadcaster often ran competitions to highlight the stories of diverse Australia.

On a few occasions, I was tasked with researching, designing and producing animated promo spots to advertise these competitions. For me, it was of great importance to ensure that I was consulting people of these cultures to make sure they were fairly represented.

As a team we decided that motion graphics was the best medium so that everyone was on a level playing field. In a few instances, we also incorporated live footage as per the request of the briefing teams. For continuity, the animated flourishes still made their way into these promos.

Emerging Writers’ Competition

The Emerging Writers’ Competition aims to platform unpublished writers who have grown up in multicultural Australia. I was tasked with the project to animate a launch promo encouraging people to apply. I used the circle motif to frame some iconic Australian scenes. As an added element, I combined these landscapes with foreign script, symbolising the intertwining of culture.

National Languages Competition

Similar to the Emerging Writers’ Competition, the National Languages Competition celebrates difference by inviting people who speak a language other than English to share their story. Selected stories were then published and prizes awarded.

I was involved in interviewing people from these cultures, designing the campaign, animating it and outputting.
