Unyoked and Apple Music present
Field Recordings II
Field Recordings II is a joint project between Apple Music and Unyoked which sends musicians out to cabins in nature to record new music incorporating the sounds of the wild. Scientists have proven that regular time in nature is the best refresher there is for coming up with new ideas or projects gone dormant. There's no better way to see that come to life than through art. The all-female line-up includes Aria-winning singer-songwriter Miiesha, Aria nominee Ngaiire, producer Milan Ring, soul musician Tiana Khasi and indie artist Ruby Gill.
To launch the technology, the tracks are recorded in immersive spatial audio. Spatial is basically surround sound for your ears. When we first experienced it, we knew we had to build it into Field Recordings. It puts you in the centre of the music, so you can feel the benefits of being in the wilderness without ever leaving your desk. We're incredibly lucky to have had the two-time Grammy-winning Eric J Dubowsky, who's worked on records for Flume, Odesza and Chet Faker, mix these for us.
We also sent veteran producer and all-time legend Wade Keighran out to our locations to capture these environments in 360 sound, so listening to them will transport you to the cabins where they were conceived.
The first of itβs kind, Field Recordings II picked up a few bits of media including The Australian, Broadsheet, i-D and Suitcase Mag. It also featured on the front of Apple Music global for a few weeks.
